Magada, it's going to get worse, I responded yesterday to a dilemma done entirely in text type, where vowels and consonants are left out of words for efficiency. I figure a dilemma is a dilemma, and proper English has been uncommon for a long time now. I can only control how I communicate, and won't worry about everyone else.

Yes well i'm always ticking my dad off for this and he says he begat a retired school marm. And i don't know if this is the case for anglo speakers but in France text type is killing spelling and grammar, so much so that even baccalaureate papers are a disaster. And when people don't grasp their language their thought processes are also impoverished.

But in fact my point here was more that i'm puzzled as to why those who obviously do master english find it necessary to omit articles and pronouns.

Well, I try, but to be fair, after a year in China and many years in Asia, flipping between languages, I am sure my English started to sound like this guy....

However, my hackles really only rise at insensitivity (calling someone's family mementos or photos "clutter" for example)

I guess I'm probably a old school marm as well as I grew up with a stepfather who made a huge issue about pronouncing words correctly. When my twin sister and I were about 15 we must have fallen into the trap of slurring our words and would say 'haaah-lo' instead of HELL-o when we answered the phone. I vividly remember being schooled in that, and to this day I say HELL-o when answering the phone.

Part of the problem with how people write is that they're on their Iphone or Ipad that doesn't have a real keyboard so they're forced to do the hunt and peck method of typing. Who wouldn't leave out whatever words they can when doing that.
