Very nice...I've tried a couple of species, but I'm just too warm and wet to make them happy. The hybrids usually do well, but even so, the upper south is not that kind to them.

Either they grow incredibly slowly or my area isn't the greatest for them, either. I have several species peonies bought tiny from Hillside, some herbaceous and a couple of trees. All are doing okay, foliage looks good and 2 herbaceous bloomed this year but both on pencil slim single stems. They're such a departure from the big, dramatic hybrids we're all so used to. Almost like a very pretty version of a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, huh?? Tinier and less vigorous than their more flashy cousins.

Liz, that's usually a perfect description of non-hybrids :)

They certainly do require much more patience especially since the flowers fade so quickly. In spite of that, I really have enjoyed them so far.
