ZZ plant

Will a ZZ plant survive outside in the Phoenix area in summer? I have a ZZ plant that looks very healthy, but isn't growing at all. I'm thinking it might like more light, I have it in my bathroom, which is on the north side of the house, with a small, head-height window. It's the only place in the house with halfway decent light that I can put the plant where the cats will leave it alone. I can put it on the patio, where it will be sheltered from direct sun and heavy wind, but can it take the heat?

I've seen several very happy ZZ plants outside all year, Leslie, but like you said, they are in deeeeeeep shade outside. I grow mine indoors in south-facing windows where they grow happily (ZZ's make just one big flush of growth in late spring/early summer). I can't say yours will be happy, but I can say I've seen several that live outside in summer in shade, long term. Let us know what you do and how it works out. Good luck!

Thank you! I will find it a nice shady spot where the dogs can't get at it. I will let you know how it does! :)

Yes, we have had one for years outside on our south facing patio year around. As Grant said, it is pushing up loads of new shoots right now.
