That is so pretty, Pat. I've always admired the contrast on Blossomtime's petals. Gosh, I wish mine was doing as well as yours!

Um, those blooms are kind of incredibly. They are all perfect. They have beautiful rolled petals, thick healthy blooms and gorgeous quartering.

I'm definitely a fan of 'Blossomtime' and almost ordered her last year, but 'thorny climber' is a phrase I find quite intimidating. Now that I know she can be grown- and grown very beautifully- as a shrub? Hmmm...

In my zone 5 northern Ohio garden, mine stayed nearer the 4 foot height than the 15 foot height given as the range.

Oh this is gorgeous, Pat! So many pink and wonderful blooms on a nice rounded shrub. Perfect habit for a rose, I think.

Thanks everyone! Diane, the blooms are about 4 inches and last a long time even in our heat/humidity down here. Unless you are going to try to make her climb, you would need a decent size spot...she's already around 5 ft wide and only a year in the ground. I planned to get caught up on posting to HMF over the winter, but somehow that never happened...I really do need to post some pictures and updates, though. I have some roses where not much info is listed, so need to get on that when I find some time.

So beautiful!!!! My little one got hit by the vortex to get to be about 2' tall and then hasn't put out any new basals in a year (did fine enough this past winter). That's if you call them basals on small roses :) I'm worried about all her growth being on one not-so-vigorous cane, but I don't know what to do.

I hope this season she'll catch some of yours' vigor! Does she not like the heat or like extra water or anything? I have her in what should be a great spot, but she acts like she wants something, poor little thing.

I don't know why it's not a better known rose. I think it's prettier than New Dawn or Viking Queen. There's a beautiful plant of it in my town on someone's picket fence just loaded with blooms in spring. Mine is a modest sized plant in quite a bit of shade but repeats well even there.

Wow! These pics are gorgeous. I just got Blossomtime from ARE and am debating where to plant it. Do you all think it could be grown as a shrub with Awakening and MAC? Is there enough colour contrast? I was thinking of Maggie, but someone on another post didn't like how Maggie and Awakening looked together.

Pat I would love to hear if you just prune yours back or if yours stays small . Mine is definitely climbing in its 3rd year but going every which way

I agree with Erasmus about Blossomtime. Beautiful and distinctive with superb fragrance. Planted one for a friend in front of their old house, where it made a sprawling bush. It wasn't enormously vigorous but was never watered or fertilized on almost pure sand.

I Purchased mine from Pickering nurseries. Sadly they're no longer in business.

Antique Rose Emporium sent me a great Blossomtime.

I also got mine recently from ARE. It's very large, but just leafing out. Does any one growing it also have New Dawn, Awakening or MAC who could comment on colour compatibility? Is it a warm pink or cool like ND? I want some contrast between the three, but prefer it if no one rose grabs all the attention. Thank you all! Also, how is rebloom and disease (BS) for those growing it un-sprayed in a Bspotty area?

Mine is a year old and didn't do much last year. It was reasonably healthy no spray, some bs towards the end of the year. Didn't repeat much but then, I think it was growing roots. It is thorny. Quite a cool pink, not as silvery as ND, and I think it would look good with MAC, I am growing mine next to Mme Caroline Testout, and there's a nice contrast. The early blooms balled a little last year, and it's not quite opening yet this year, so we will see. It is very pretty in person.

THANK YOU for that info! I got it by mistake and now have to find a place for it. I also accidentally got Mme C. Testout as well so I'm all ears if you have any comments to share on that one, as well. : ) I might be able to fit them all together, maybe. Also, have you found as did the above poster, that it can be grown as a large shrub as that would be my intent?

vaporvac, thanks to you bringing back this post, I have ordered one. It's a rose I've wanted to find a place for, for a long time. I removed a marauding salvia, and realised after reading this I could put it where it was. Thank you!

My Blossomtime is very healthy and a cool medium pink. I also am doing a large shrub here. I also have Awakening a lighter pink, and MAC the palest blush. I think they would look great nearby or adjacent to each other. Don't have Mme Testout.

sorry for the delay in response...just checking forum after a few days away. My Blossomtime is much larger now than when I originally posted...it's about 5.5 ft tall and 11 ft wide now. Not as mannerly looking as it was back then...lol...but still a very good rose for me. A thorny monster that I plan to prune harder next year...I don't want it to get any wider than it is now. It has long stiff canes that do fine as a large shrub. It does blackspot here in our high humidity, but not as bad as many others. Mine came from Petals from the Past...it's only a hour and a half drive for me, so I get what I can from them.

Holy cow, Pat! That's huge, but I think I have the space for it, or maybe I can prune it a bit. If not I'll just put it in the next bed over and see what else I have in pots that would suit. I'm mainly looking for low BS for this space that it will share with either NewDawn or Awakening and MACarriere. I'm anxious to get these in as their bed is already prepared. Wow absolutely stunning. I am struggling with mine. My first one didn't like the first pot so I have repotted to keep it as a small shrub. My 2nd one isn't planted and has grown so big in 4 weeks and has several rose buds. My balcony has a lot of wind exposure and now my latest one has crazy powedry mildew thats getting difficult to control. See how it goes.

I doubt this rose wants to be in a pot.

I still have my Blossomtime on the arch. It is doing a little better since I had a maple tree cut down. I also put an own-root one in a large pot next to a fence. I think it's in its third year and is doing pretty well in the pot. The pot is in shade but the plant reaches over the fence into sun. I may have taken the bottom out of the pot so it can freely root into the ground. i don't remember. But if you have a spot that is too hard to dig, one option is to grow a rose in a pot and let it root through the hole. The roots often will penetrate the soil in the tough spot and some can do surprisingly well. I really like your picture of your shrub Blossomtime, Pat bama. It is gorgeous as a shrub. My Blossomtime is kind of bs prone but not extremely and does better with morning sun to dry the leaves.
