Foliage issues...

My two Plumerias, Mardi Gras and Celandine, have leafed out nicely this spring. Lots of vigorous new growth. The plants seem healthy, but the foliage has this mottled and speckled appearance. At first, I thought it was spider mites. However, after inspecting the undersides of the leaves with a magnifying glass, I found them to be completely free of mites. Now I am suspecting foliar thrip might be possible. Any thoughts on this?? If so, I'm guessing a systemic insecticide should take care of them?

Hi there! I think everyone's just hesitant to take a guess - my opinion is it definitely looks like a sucking insect of sorts so treatment would be the same as if it were spider mites. And then do the treatment again in 2 weeks to catch an egg cycle.

I suspect you may have already done something since it's been a while since your post? If so, please update us with what you did and what happened.

If the tree is pushing healthy looking leaves, then I would just keep an eye on it. Bayer 3 in 1 does a great job on mites, scale, thrips etc. make sure you spray in the shade and not in the sun. Emily has it right.. Spray again to catch the egg cycle. I would leave the leaves on and they will naturally drop off as new ones emerge.
