Hi Traci. These were originally white. I did paint them a deep brownish black color and added some bronzy gold over most areas, then applied more paint over in areas. Toned and top coated for overall sheen and protection., A stain may work, but if door has a protective coat, may not absorb or adhere, and appear splotchy, or more flat looking than this. I suggest doing a sample first before applying. Hope that helps.
