In between bouts of rain, I can hear my plants wimpering as they slowly drown.

Misery loves company and we're all in this together. It is good to have other folks going through the same thing who understand.

I'm trying not to get too down in the dumps over the way the garden is suffering....there's people here in our area a lot worse off....flooded out of their homes, or flooded into homes they cannot leave because their road is flooded. There's folks in some counties who have had to be rescued from high water or who have had vehicles flooded, etc. All my garden problems are minor by comparison.

On the news, they did show some happy fishermen down there fishing by the Red River Bridge between Thackerville, OK, and Gainesville, TX. At least somebody is having fun.

I keep fighting this urge to plant something. At this point, putting anything in the ground is merely choosing its fate---death by drowning.

We haven't had that much rain today----less than an inch, but for us, the worst rain wasn't going to be today anyway----it was going to be later in the week. Even at a half-inch of rainfall earlier this afternoon, nothing appeared to be soaking in---it was running off as quickly as it could.

We received only about 1" today. I am so happy we didn't get the 2-4" they predicted. We are back to sloppy mud but no flooding today. We will just have to wait and see what this weekend brings. The line of rain just took a long time to get here and then just began to fall apart, it was great to watch.

We're supposed to see the sun again on Sunday. Sink or swim.

Bon, they said we are getting sun tomorrow...80 plus degrees. My poor garden. Can you imagine getting blasted with 80 degrees after all this cool weather? :) I expect to see some leaps by tomorrow night. I scattered a bunch of bermuda seed (shhh, I know, why would anyone do that?), it has been getting just the right amount of rain. I'm hoping to see some baby grass soon.

Well, it's better than fighting the Bermuda. Sometimes ya gotta go with the norm. lol My hugel bed is cold. Heck. I'm cold. It and the tomatoes and peppers could use some sun. They must be happy because they're sprouting newbies at the top. My face reminds me that they can get sun even on cloudy days. I used sunscreen today, thank goodness. lol

I'm going to build a corner picket fence on the other property and plant the peonies behind it. Hopefully, I can get some lavender in there, too, eventually. Will be nice.

I may dig up the naked ladies tomorrow.

We didn't get much rain at all, only about 0.60" although that still is 0.60" more than we needed.

It is sunrise here and I expect the plants will whine and whimper and ask what that bright, hot thing in the sky is. They may even wilt, not having seen much sunlight at all for the last couple of weeks.

I hope the sun starts drying up all the massive puddles, and especially the farm and ranch river bottom lands that still are under up to 6' of water.

We got around .35 here yesterday. Had 1.1 last week. So not the big rains others have had but a better start than in recent years. Hopefully this is a sign we will continue to see rain and maybe some good ones soon. I'm still limiting my gardening until I'm convinced the trend is changing. We've got several chances over the next 10 days.

I give in. I acknowledge the obvious fact. Oklahoma is in monsoon season.

Reminds me of monsoon in Asia. I used to run outside with soap and towel. Shower, dry off and run back inside the bunker.
Problem was, I had to put my rotten fatigues back on.

I'm so sorry everyone has had to deal with so much water. i've been trying to keep quiet because, in comparison, I cannot complain and the drought monitor shows it by remaining into exceptional drought for most of Payne Co. Even our rain has been constant, the cellar continually over-flowing with the sump pump running constantly and the our need to constantly drain the rainbarrels ..... So, I cannot imagine how awful ya'll are with the exceptionally high levels of rain, too.

Hi Jay, It is nice to see you here! I hope you get some more rain. We are drowning down here with about 20" in the last 30 days and almost 30" for the year-to-date. It is ridiculous. I wish that the excessive rain that is pestering us and causing flooding of our lakes, rivers and streams (and, obviously, our gardens as well) would just go away for a little while and let us dry out.....maybe it could head to your place and rain there for a while.

Johnny, I have a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach because I think it is going to be a really prolonged monsoon season and that is going to wreak havoc on gardens in the rainier areas. And, I just want to add, thank your for your service to our country.

Bon, Hang in there! Drought improvement is occurring in Payne County too. Check out this week's Drought Monitor map and you'll see the Exceptional and Extreme Drought are gone. Now, depending on where a person is located within your county, you "only" have to deal with conditions rated from Abnormally Dry to Severe Drought. It takes a while to scratch and claw your way out of drought and back into the white, no-drought, category but y'all may be on your way to doing just that. We were on the Drought Monitor map in various categories, ranging from Abnormally Dry to Extreme for 3 straight years without a break before finally returning to the white "normal" part of the map a couple of weeks ago. As always, it took a flood to finally nudge us all the way out of drought. Plain old average rainfall just isn't enough to kick drought to the curb, but this isn't a plain old average rainfall year, so I expect y'all may make it out of drought sometime this year too.

I feel for the people who are in low-lying areas. As wet as we are here, we are on relatively high ground and don't have to worry about our road remaining flooded for long and we haven't had to go out and move cattle to high ground, nor have we had to deal with water in our house or outbuildings or any of the other numerous rain-related problems that some people in our county are dealing with. Our gravel driveway is washing downhill, but that is not abnormal in a flood year. When heavy rain turns the driveway into a river, naturally some of the gravel will wash away. If it ever stops raining for a couple of days, I'll go out with a shovel and a wheelbarrow and try to reclaim our driveway from the road and the bar ditch, one shovelful of gravel at a time.

I'm doing my best to remain optimistic about the garden, but it is suffering terribly from the heavy rainfall, so I expect there will be a lot of garden challenges over the coming weeks.

I think all the container gardeners are in better shape. My garden is too wet, and has been for a long time. I have not planted any okra yet and I expect my watermelon and cantaloupe seeds have rotted. The peppers and tomatoes are looking waterlogged. My volunteer tomato plants look better than the ones I bought and the ones I started from seeds.
