I have three Walter's 'Whorled Class' Viburnums. One was picked up at a Big Box store and the other two were picked up from a nursery. While weeding the bed where these are planted, I saw larger leaves coming up under the one I got from the Big Box store. When I tried to pull up this uninvited plant, I quickly learned it was coming from the base of the Viburnum, so I am guessing there is a different viburnum used for the rootstock. I think I see the graft point, but it is very fine. I do not see similar growth on the two from the nursery, but I will be keeping an eye on them.

A couple of questions in regards to this discovery:

Is a rootstock required for Walter's 'Whorled Class'?

If I root a cutting from this shrub, will the resulting, non-grafted cutting revert to a more natural, less compact form?
