Benjamin Moore has a line of paint called "Advance" that is meant for woodwork. As for rollers, your local paint dept can tell you what would work best. One of my favourite painting tips from Pinterest is to keep all rolls with your roller go in one direction only for a smooth result. I hope you will post pictures if you go ahead with this job.

I've heard good things about chalk paint. Not sure using a roller though will give you a good finish.
