Drip irrigation watering time

I apologize if this has been mentioned before on the forums. But I'm looking over the internet and finding many mixed results on the amount of time to leave my drip irrigation on. This forum seems to have a LOT of information.

Let's say I have a medium sized planter, with say four different annuals in them. With a 1GPH emitter going into it, how long should I set the timer to run for?

And how often? (I believe it can go from 6 hour intervals, up to 7 days.)

I'm no plant expert, or gardening expert, we take trips frequently and thought drip irrigation would be our best bet for keeping our flowers alive.

Our summer days are usually around 80F and humid. If you need any more information, please let me know. I'm also not looking for some super complex answer, please keep it simple.

Thanks!
