I think it's a really good idea to bring a sample of your floor tile when you shop for granite. I agree with the above suggestion that you should stay away with a countertop that has lots of movement but not crazy about the beige counters you have now...the color, that it. Since you are going with white cabinets, you may consider a dark granite for some contrast...unless you are planning to change the floors in the near future.

It's really hard to tell when they are so close together...they may work further apart. I would say that the granite has greys/brown and floor tile is more pink. The picture below reflects granite/floors that both reflect the pinkish color - if you like that look. But my suggestion would be to go with the granite but consider a porceline tile (that looks like wood) - if you haven't already purchased the tile and you could lay in a herringbone pattern. I feel less busy tile works better with granite in general. God luck in your decisions..it is difficult.

I think putting the granite sample close to the tile is not the way to visualize the space. The tile and counter are going to be spaced apart by the cabinets and I think this combo would work. Giallo O is a very common and beautiful granite that has some garnet flecks in it. This should work nicely with the pink undertones of your tile.

We used Giallo Ornamental granite in our house in Georgia. I loved it. Beautiful and easy cleanup…unlike my darker granite now.

Agree drballard33 to bring the tile when shopping for granite. It doesn't have to match perfectly, but please make sure the 2 compliment one another. We made the mistake of not doing that several years ago when renovating our kitchen. We have a similar ceramic floor tile like yours (has lots of movement/yellows and oranges in it depending on the light) but will not have to eventurally change it bc it really doesn't work with the new quartzite counter and backsplash. Planning to do that soon. Renovating a kitchen is a process! Good luck.

Reconsider the granite countertop and look at a quartz product - the movement will be less. the cost will be less as well.

Quartz is typically more expensive than granite unless you are at the high end granite. I had those ugly cabinets and painted them white and ended up going with a very dark granite (almost black) that looks stunning due to the contrast and it didn't have movement. I don't know how this will look with the tile though but please consider it as visually when you look at the kitchen the white cabinets and dark counter stands out more than anything. Also white cabinets with a nice white quartz looks really amazing as well. I think that combo may go better with your floors than anything. Like everyone said, try not to get a granite with too much movement.

Consider a pebble pattern rather than a vein pattern in quartz or granite to contrast your tile floor.

OK, went to the granite place today with a floor tile sample and narrowed it down to two choices. The darker slab is a new one they just had delivered and they call it Amber Cloud (although there isn't tons of amber in it, its mostly grey, cream, with some "amberish" brown which I think would work well with the tile. the lighter one is the Giallo Ornamental that we originally liked but its a different lot so it has less vein's and more speckled. What are everyone's

thoughts on the two? Keep in mind we were going to paint our cabinets either white, or possibly an off white and the wall color is still up in the air but most likely either a light grey or a khaki-light brown color.

Folks are saying that Giallo Ornamental has movement in it and it really doesn't. It really is a plain granite and would go nicely with your colors. We have used it on white cabinets and on slightly off white cabinets. It is not a strong color and has no overpowering movement so it really just blends with other things around it. You also want to make sure you use a very neutral backsplash to keep it all pulled together. I vote for the Giallo Ornamental. The other is too busy and will be too dark.

I like the first of the two new ones with the floor. But, just not sure white cabinets will work well with those warm colors. Some light color paint for the cabinets could work, but not sure about white.

Go for Amber Cloud the one with the "lines" in it. Consider chantilly lace from benjamin moore for the cabinet colour and with either black or rubbed bronze hardware.

Would you consider a cabinet color sort of like White Down in the link lorewren posted? I think a warmer white like that would be beautiful with you floors and possible counter choices.

Me too, can't find a thing about Amber Cloud granite. Must go by another name too.

I would go with quartz in white or a marble color & if you can't afford the quartz for everything, use butcher block on the island. You won't be sorry you went with quartz. No or less maintenance.

I think granite has had its run. It's virtually everywhere these days, and unless you choose a rare, expensive type with pronounced color, you're going to end up with just another granite countertop. I like the Cesarstone-type materials, and there are some great, punchy colors. Some of my favorites are the recycled glass surfaces. They're "greener" than granite. And even Corian has some nice finishes now, and you can get an integrated, seamless sink, and it wont damage your knives.

Oh, my gosh, that's pretty! Can't see much of the floor with the granite in the pic, but it's nice? That choice was my favorite!

Agree, the granite you chose is perfect and looks great with your floors. Your kitchen is going to be beautiful. Post pictures after you have finished painting the cabinets and walls.
