I actually really liked the way the rug looked because it broke up all the dark colors of table, chairs, and floor....but it would need to be slightly larger.

I vote, keep it without a rug at this point, since you have a small child who spills, though. It's not practical in this space now.

Ashely-I agree that the rug grounded your space and added a nice contrast between all the same colored wood tones. Have you considered searching for an indoor/outdoor rug? May be more durable and practical with a young child.

ashley, if you go to most carpet stores you can buy what would be wall to wall carpeting in any dimensions or shapes you like and they will bind the edges.
