I haven't been getting near as much either, but it is plenty. Last night was downright chilly! The QPF still looks pretty rainy for the next week. I don't think we are done yet.

Fortunately there is just enough slope on most of the ground out there that I will be able to mow after a day or two of sun. It only has a couple of low places I have to keep out of due to standing water.

Got the orchard mowed yesterday. Just as I was getting ready to start on the rest of the area today, it started raining. Didn't last long, but made it too wet.....again. So we spread mulch--shredded leaves--in the garden instead.

I mowed most of my side yard today, but light rain started before I finished. It was just a small shower, but the big one is yet to come.

I wanted to weed eat the side yard in lieu of mowing it, but it has about 2" of water standing in it and you start sinking into it if you stand still. I don't know when or if or how we'll ever mow again.

It actually stayed dry and sunny long enough for me to mow the rest of our place yesterday. Then after dark we got another 1.5" of rain that we certainly didn't need.

dawn, that is funny about the goldfish. we have a frog, and we seldom have frogs. Reading a book on climate change and how so many frogs were dying in the 80s. may still be. I think our turtles might love the rain too. saw a baby ground hog the other day, so they are multiplying in our yard. doesn't help that we feed them. we have mowed in-between rains.

Tim mowed yesterday. Now we have muddy mower tire ruts everywhere and I am not sure I like the look of a short-grass rutted muddy lawn any more than I liked the look of a taller-grass swampy wet lawn, but at least we'll maybe be able to see snakes, turtles or frogs in the yard before we step on them. We have dozens of turtles now, and some of the bigger ones keep climbing the hill from our ponds and creeks to come up to the house to dig little cavities in the soil to lay their eggs. I suppose they want to get their eggs up on the highest ground they can find. The survival rate of the eggs themselves is very poor. Generally other wild animals like coons and possums dig up the eggs and eat them before they get a chance to hatch.

The big pond has tons of frog eggs, and we have frogs all over the place. I've only seen a few toads though. We're seeing more and more dragonflies and that is nice because they get scarce in the dry years, and then have a huge population boom in the wet years. Dragonflies are very beneficial and eat tons of pest insects. I stick bamboo stakes randomly in my garden each year just to give the dragonflies a place to sit and stay around a while. They perch right on top of the bamboo stakes.

I'd like to do some weeding in the garden today as the rain is really making the weeds sprout and grow, but there's so much standing water in the pathways that they look like little canals, so I kinda hate to stomp around in the pathways in my muckboots. Maybe today's sunlight will help dry up the puddles and the paths will at least be free of standing water this afternoon, if it isn't raining.....
