One of these as your new media cabinet? Love the walnut color add warmth to the space and would tie into the walnut in your recliners.

You have a lot of great advice here. I think we all agree that a larger media console is called for and
Flair Lighting had some nice examples of how to make that wall work. You definitely need a new updated rug - either something more textural or something with a larger (but subtle tonal) pattern. Artwork needs to be larger. Take off the small molding detail over your mantel so that you can accommodate a larger statement piece. With a bold piece of artwork, leave the mantel clean! I'm always a fan of less is more - that means less stuff, but bigger stuff! I especially agree with the comment that so many of your things are dainty / spindly. Some chunkiness would be good. Lastly, think about color-blocking. Select the one accent color that you want to pull in (hard to tell you what that is without seeing the adjacent rooms and the color story throughout your home). Pull that color into the rug, into solid long panels at the windows, into chunky pottery in the bookcase and into your pillows. The solid chunks of color will offset some of that daintiness and it will make the room pop.

@bipmmm, you really don't need to place anything below the TV if the new console is tall enough (as shown in the pic above).

It's ok to have some "negative space" (I think that's the correct designer term). :-)

Can you wall mount the TV console? If not, are Ikea legs or industrial casters and option to raise it? Raise the height with a new top?

Paint the walls. Use your rug for colour inspiration. Move the photos from the photo rail to the top of the cabinets and add some foliage.

This site called Modshop offers both lucite and wood furniture legs you can purchase per their website.....although currently they're only showing lucite legs in pictures (see below). It may still be worth contacting them to see what other (wood) options are available.

A local furniture repair shop, maker or upholsterer may also be able to sell you some (or even have some installed) for a lot less than it would cost for you to purchase a new console.

i am no expert it I would just add a little plant life in the corners. A little one on coffee table with a couple of trinkets from the heart should be enough

There is a monochromatic look to this room. Difficult to differentiate the floor from the darker furniture. Looks like a easy fix though without breaking your budget. Add some funky colorful pillows in chairs or layer the chairs with patterned throws. Maybe pick out a dominate color that you like in the room and add pattern curtains of the same color. For example. You have a pretty wall color. Why not hang curtains with that color in small doses and a pop of color in the same family only brighter?

Your room is close to perfect, it's just missing a few elements. I think the coffee table is almost disappearing. Place something on it to give it a bit more presence such as a tray or grouping of books. Some colourful accessories on the built-in and a throw on the sofa in similar colours. Fill in the tv wall a bit more and you will have a wonderful space.

Do you have a console in another room that you could switch with this one? Or a dining console, dresser, sofa table?

I rather like everything you've got, but I think it doesn't all work well together. I think silk plants, slightly dif one from the other, up high on either side of the chimney would help. The add books idea is good too. I would change either the wall paint color which is very cool or the rug or the couch. My pick would be to simply switch out the couch for something more warm and red, then carry the red tone over to other areas. (The rug and wall combo seems to make the rug look drab, you could change that if you love the rug by just going cream on the molding instead of white, but the crisp white looks great, so I return to the red couch or change the rug!)

We also think the Tolomeo mega lamp might help really define the space without being too chunky.

Everything is linear except the coffee table. Some vine-filled planters atop the bookcases would soften and colorize that area. The mantel needs a few items that have softer, rounder, colorful elements/style. If there is enough space for a narrow long table behind the sofa it might give some depth and definition to the pale sofa back. Don't be afraid to accessorize; it's jewelry for your room.

Although I like the chairs, it's difficult to make them look like they were "meant" to be in that room. In my opinion, patterned chairs would add so much warmth and character.

The furniture, while nice, is too modern for your traditional room. The room itself is stunning. The rug is great. It's the furniture that's making you feel like something is missing; due, in part to the incongruency between modern furniture and traditional room. It's like wearing $200 jeans to a fancy wedding; both the jeans and the wedding are top notch but neither compliment the other.

If changing the furniture is not an option, soften the look with shape, color and texture. Thanks for sharing!

None of this works for me! Where is the focal point in this room! Not sure how big your tv is and am not a fan of mounting them over a fireplace but sometimes it just has to be. This just looks messy to me.

Didn't you ask for advice on making the room "more cozy". I don't feel like many of the comments were helping you with that specifically. I am sitting on my couch with my feet on my ottoman. The glass table is great but feels cold, not cozy. I would replace it with an ottoman if possible. If it is large enough you can use it as a table as well for drinks by just putting a pretty tray on it. Also find some cozy throws to have somewhere in the room that you can actually use. Also the two lamps are modern but cold something with wood might be cozier...Good luck.

Did anyone mention curtain panels? You need them for color and add softness to he room. Your pieces are nice, but they are smaller in scale and read hard vs, soft. So, curtain panels, and the above advice about a rug with some more color. Soften up your furniture with throws or pillows pulling color from your rug/curtains and you should be good o go.

Looks like your room could use a console for the TV. Something long and with some height to anchor the TV.

Mantel might benefit from layering pictures. I don't care for the picture frame molding that defines where you should hang art. Keep arrangements a little asymmetrical.

Very often an grouping of shelves or pictures on the TV wall just doesn't work. I miss the old style armoire that hides all of the wires and components and allows you to close the doors when not in use. Also removes the urge to try to decorate around the tv.

id like to see you tie the camel color of the couch in somehow, maybe a tan shade o the lamps...

can you put a console table behind the couch? than put lamps on it?

Try flipping the rug the other way and putting the couch where the chairs are and the chairs where the couch is.

I think part of the balance issue is that one side of the FP is open shelving and the other side looks a lot like kitchen cabinets. They should match.

I would suggest you get a few additional things in the dark burgundy found in the carpet. One or two small vases or candles -- all in burgundy -- on the mantle would be nice, plus some burgundy throw pillows for the sofa and chairs, plus a burgundy throw or quilt for the sofa. If you add a floral arrangement, have a few burgundy flowers in it, but have other floral colors like blue and yellow as well.

I agree with that too deco! the balance is off b/c of that.

what if you removed the right cabinet, and hung the tv in that space, than flanked the chairs..

Is this trying to be a formal living room or a family room? I guess you could put the TV were the cabinets are but that's recessed and in the corner throwing the balance off even more! Not crazy about the cabinets either ; would continue the bookcases on both sides all the way up to under the soffit. That's a strange space up there. Looks unfinished. I would simplify your fireplace wall by removing the columns above the mantle as well as the picture frame moulding. To fussy for your modern aesthetic. If this is a family room , just hang the TV over the fireplace. If you get rid of that TV console it will free up floor space! You Could bring the sofa closer and get a sofa table, some nice big lamps , maybe and end table. The TV were it is now just doesn't make sense to me, across from a whole bank of windows!

You can sit something decorative and colorful on top on the cabinets to make it more warming in the room and fill those spaces. Ex: vases, plants, glass fixtures.... And on the top you can add some nice small pictures to add warmth and color to the room!

Well at a quick glance this is what I would suggest. Replace lamps. Get one for the table between chairs that has some design to it, whether it be the lamp itself by style ( straight line or one with a shape) or lamp shade, it needs to be seen. The one you currently use is too smal and for me has no interest value. The floor lamp is cool but I still think it needs to be more to scale of furniture. It's too skinny and odd compared to furniture. You are going for a modern look, right? Keep in mind that modern doesn't have to be chrome accent pieces, but typically it is a more structured look. That being said, if you can trade out your coffee table for a bit larger one, maybe round with a metal base. I would definitely change up the TV wall. Take everything off the wall, except for the TV. I would get a suitable size cabinet, maybe vintage with an Art Deco look, that has doors where you can hide the TV when not in use. Not a gigantic size that takes up the entire wall space, but one you can put the TV into. You won't have to hang anything around it, ( less is more) if you can find a way to mirror the bookcase/shelving it will give that whole wall a unified look. The rug should be brighter, and you might try laying it at an angle. The room has alot of square edges and a simple angle using the rug will break all that up. Pillows, and lots of them in colors and pattern will ad texture, get them with a down blend they are more scrunchy and comfy. With the fireplace I would get a new updated screen, or paint the one you have to create a focal point. Skip the throws on the chairs, save them for use on the sofa and put a pillow in each chair. If you mount the TV above the fireplace leave your sofa where it is and move the two chairs to the wall where u hv the TV now. It will open up the space as you enter the room. You could then add a small cushy chair there for extra seating. Ii hope this helps you. Good luck!
