Totally lost on how to make this space work! Long story short we are in
a rental which recently had a new fireplace install due to a chimney
fire and "not to code" fireplace design. The landlord had this firebox
installed and is now unhappy with how it looks. The landlord is willing
to spruce up the appearance (with in reason) by adding tile and/or
mantle. Our biggest dilemma is want kind of mantle if any should be
added. As you can see from the photo there is a random cut out on the
right side which is makes matters more complicated. Any advice would be
appreciated. No mantle, surround, floating, etc?There are dark hardwood floors throughout the house and the granite hearth is black, browns, and grey.
