Looks like Chaenomeles - flowering quince. Are the stems spiny?

Did you see it flower? or did you miss that? They tend to bloom early. Perhaps you weren't moved in yet?

Yes, has the new growth of flowering quince.

It has two different types of leaves, one type alternating ,elongated and serrated at the edges and the other type appearIng in pairs as bracts just below each alternating leaf or by themselves along the stem. It did not flower after I moved in. It was fully and densely leafed out. It has proven itself to be a fast and vigous grower. The stems are spineless and smooth. It appears that the entire shrub was cut back to the ground sometime last season, along with the lilacs, roses, hybiscus, and wisteria. Here is a closer Look at the leaves.

I'm no expert on them. It could be the lack of blooms was because they were cut back. Maybe there are spineless cultivars.

The different types of leaves are typical of Chaenomeles.

Cutting it off near the ground would have eliminated all mature flowering and spiny wood. This is definitely a Chaenomeles.
