It really depends on how you use your sink...do you hand wash dishes and like to let them air dry on the second side for instance. It's such a personal decision from both a practical and visual perspectiive and you will probaby see a response of 50% for each. My preference is double, as I like to keep my small fruit/vege recycle bin neaby so it's easily accessible but still more or less out of site.

Single for sure! And get a removable drying rack that expands to go over the end of the sink.

Double-it is handy to have an extra one. Sometime you need one for draining food in a colander and the other so you can wash your hands etc..

oh, if you go single just get the matching grid for the bottom. then you can have a colander draining AND wash your hands or drain a pot or anything. you dont need to go double just for that reason.

I like a large single, many of the double sinks are just too small. I would be open to a double if at least one of them was as large as a big single.

Love my single and only wish I'd gotten a 33 inch, although it is big enough. When I want a basin Rubbermaid provides.

Very personal choice, and as stated above, really depends on how and what you will be using it for. Most of our latest projects, customers are opting for a single large sink instead of the double.

Large deep single holds things that won't fit in a double. But the choice is really personal preference. One size doesn't fit all.

We are about a month out from completion of our new construction and know we are getting a Silgranite sink but not sure single or double. We will have a big single in the laundry room near the kitchen so I supppse we could use that for oversize items.

I like a double because I keep a dish drainer on one side to hold a few hand washed dishes and rinsed recyclables. I do not like the look of a dish drainer on the counter, nor do I have room for one.

How much space do you have for your sink? My recommendation would be one clever and HUGE single bowl with thoughtful inserts, such as the Galley Sink. Not cheap, but very high quality, and so clever you won't need much other counter space.

Without a doubt, a double sink is the only for me. It wasn't until we moved to our current house that I go to experience a large single sink. Hand washing dishes was nearly impossible until I bought a small plastic tub to put the soapy water. This solution wasn't so bad however I had to make room in my already over crowded cupboards for the tub. Needless to say after living with a single basin for a year I was so happy to return to a double. The majority of my hand washing is fine china and crystal. There are really only a handful of times throughout the year I need a big sink for a large pan.

A single (commonly 25"x22") will give more countertop space than a double (33"x22") which can be critical in a small kitchen. And, if you're replacing cabinets, the sink base will be smaller, (typically 27" vs. 36") which will give more space for more useful cabinets.

I design kitchens and I find people choosing single more and more.

I have always had a double sink in my kitchen but I have thought when I renovate I would love to have an extra large single sink. However, the comments regarding where to wash ones hands when the sink is being used (eg. colander full of veggies) makes me think again.

roxol, if you buy the matching grid the colander sits on that to one side, you wash your hands at the other end. the important bit is to make the single basin large. generally it doesnt need to be even as big as the total double to be completely satisfactory.
