Oh yeah! If I leave the flower scapes on my Heuchera, variety hasn't mattered, I find seedlings in the spring. I have transplanted them and they have done just as well as yours!

mkpearse, I am actually look for Southern Comfort Heuchera to grow for my daughter's wedding. I thought it's a peachy, orange colored leaf heuchera. How does it produce dark purple seedlings?

That's what makes it so confusing, because southern comfort is peachy colored but the seedlings are dark purple. I didn't have any dark colored heuchera anywhere around and all of a sudden I have these dark colored seedlings around southern comfort.

I guess hybrid heucheras do not come true from seeds. Is your original SC from seed? I could not find any SC seeds online.

Mine was a transplant from the store. I got it at Lowe's

This gives me a reason to not cut off the scapes. Maybe when my plants fill in, the scapes will look better.

I had tons of seedlings from a Blackberry Ice last fall. Tons and tons. I was so excited to get all these new Ices! So I dug them up carefully and transplanted them all around. This spring they all grew.

But they are ugly. They are flat plants with only two or three tiers of leaves and numerous seed spikes coming up from the center. Homely little things. About July I gave up on them ever growing up to look like their mama and started digging them all up and throwing them away.

From this experiment I have decided that Blackberry Ices do not come true from seed.

There's a reason they sell selections...the majority are ugly ducklings most like the species probably.

No hybrid heuchera will come true from seed - that is the nature of hybrids. Seedlings will take various traits from the parent plants (of which there could be several - hybrids of hybrids) and the dominant genes will usually prevail. The brightly colored hybrid selections, like Southern Comfort or Blackberry Ice, are propagated asexually (often by tissue culture) to ensure exact replication.
