rooting suckers - arent they cute in the lil red shot cups? :-P

just wanted to share some baby violet pics! i think they are too cute. its fun to go away for 6 days and come back and then everything seems BIG! 'Big' in a small way anyhow... as all of the ones in the first pictures are mini and semi minis. ;)

and i have a question. these minis are in the size cup i use for my wick watering system... when can i take the cups with the babies and mother leaf out of the humidity chamber and onto a wicking system on my kitchen window sill!!?? :) :)

Julia I don't understand what you mean, was that in reference to my remark about "eye candy"? Or does it mean YOU understand my comment and the girls you work with would not understand? Doesn't really matter I am just really confused! (that happens! lol) Rosie

Su,,,,,,I am really liking that little Jersey Trail girl leaf! Let me know when it will be big enough for a leaf trade! Rosie

Rosie, I think she was just meaning that the girls at her work place would not understand her thoughts that the pics are "eye Candy" for her. I have heard the term "eye candy" used for various things! Many women use it referring to handsome men... so perhaps Julia was just saying that to her, violets are "Eye Candy". :-) Does that help? I probably confused you more.

OK - I'll let you know how they do! so far she has only sent up one baby.. some of them have about 5 babies! Whew. :-)

Anyone have any thoughts about how long I have to leave them in their humidity chamber? I'd love to have them in my kitchen window on wick watering so I can enjoy watching them grow while I work in my least favorite place in my house, which I happen to be in that room WAY more than the other rooms! *sigh* I should just learn to love my Kitchen and all my problems would be solved. :-P

Yeah at first I thought that is what she meant! But then I read it over and I just didn't want to make a mistake in what she meant! I figured she meant "eye candy" the way I meant it which is the way you explained it!

It is used to describe hunky men also and I imagine a lot of other things. But anything that pleases MY eye is "eye candy" and food for my soul!

Su, do you wick ALL of your violets? From babyhood? Rosie

Nope, I'm just dabbling in wicking right now... I only have two minis on wick, just to try it out. They are doing splendid though. My baby violets are not on wicking system yet, I was just curious if that would actually be helpful for them and if anyone else has ever put babies on wick watering? I don't need to repot them... I would just stick the cups they are in straight on my reservoirs and thread a mason twine through a hole in the pot. I just thought that since the babies LIKE humidity... maybe they would actually like being on a wicking system? I dunno... I was mainly looking to hear from people and see what they say.

Well,,,just my personal opinion, but I like the idea of wick watering, in the winter it makes watering so much easier. And just a thought, with winter wicking, the water in the soil evaporates UP,,,,,into the leaves and helps with humidity? Just guessing on what the actual dynamic really is.

I think wicks would be really terrific for the smaller mini's and micro mini's. Once again you can see if the level of water is almost gone easier than to constantly wonder if the little one needs watering without a wick system. I have just started minis and micro minis and I think they will go on wicks soon. I don't want to lose track of watering or worry unnecessarily if they go dry faster than I can water. We don't have air conditioning (big old farmhouse) so the weather is what it is. Temperature fluctuates a lot. I think,,,for me,,,,wicks may be the way to go. Any opinions???? Rosie

Rosie and Su you have it correct the pictures are very appealing to me. I always love to see the little violets start and wonder what they will look like when they bloom.

I love to see the pix (eye candy for me and I love candy!!!!!) everyone posts! Let's me know what I may be missing (wanting!!!) and I get to see the way other people grow their plants! Rosie

Oh yeah,,,eye candy refers to whatever pleases someone's eye!

Joanne if you have a coffee machine that uses Kcups those are perfect!!!!

Just take the foil cover off, dump the coffee grounds, pull out the paper filter (put grounds and filter in compost pile or around outdoor bushes) wash the little cups, enlarge the little hole and you are good to go. I rip off a piece of napkin to cover the hole before I put medium in. You can also wick them if you want. I am going to try that next! Rosie PS. Joanne check your private messages.

Thank you, Rosie! I did check my PM and sent a reply! I did get a K machine and have one at work but we ran out of the correct cups for the new machine. The new machine requires a new kind of cup. So we are presently out of cups.

I didn't know there were different kinds of cups! My husband buys all brands of kcups for at home, and the lady that saves them for me gives me anything from coffee to tea to hot chocolate Kcups! And I use the word Kcup as a generic term. But I get every type of flavor you can imagine! Rosie

The keurig company changed their machine so that the new machines will only take their own brand of cups. But it is hard to know where to buy that brand. That was why I jokingly referred to it as the latest coffee cult when I first got a machine.

Geeze Joanne, that really bites! But I guess they don't want people being able to drink other peoples coffee! Rosie
