Each mole needs about 1/4 acre of territory to survive so more than likely you have just one mole to contend with, and just one mole can make a very large mess. The single most effective method of mole control is those traps, but moles move around randomly so it is only by significant luck that you do trap one.

Anything that will poison a mole will poison any other animal or human being and is the reason why directions for use must be followed with great care. There are also many sources of information that indicate the poison baits simply do not work, moles eat only living things not grains or dead gels. Moles have not survived for eons because they are stupid.

Have you ever heard of using used coffee grounds sprinkled on their trails? This was suggested at a computer help forum that I frequent by a fella I was helping. I did save some coffee grounds ans sprinkle on the trails and at the opens and it appears the moles only moved on to another area in the yard.

I see a lot of suggestions about using coffee grounds for mole control and many people may think it works when they put some down and the moles stop using that are for a while, but in reality coffee grounds will not deter moles. Many people report that earthworms really like coffee grounds (they like any form of organic material) so putting down some coffee grounds will attract more earthworms and moles most favorite food is earthworms so the moles will move in to eat at this now abundant chow line.

Your mole moves around in search of food, and may even leave your yard for a time if the food supply there drops low enough.

It might be that the presence of moles in your soil indicates that you have a good healthy soil since they will not go where there is no food, and the food they eat only exists in a good healthy soil.

I know several people that have used those traps to control the moles and they have trapped 40 plus moles every year for a long time, and they still have moles.
Those traps do a good job of controlling moles.

It appears that the person that posted the article about traps that I responded to above has deleted that post.

Is advertising allowed on this forum? The forums where I am from would call that post above spamvertising.

Anyway, still got the mole problem. The neighbors brother owns and operates a wild animal control business. He's got me researching biodegradable mole deterrents.

I know of no state that protects moles. Most states do regulate the removal of moles, as any wildlife, but none protect them.
