milkweeds don't like to be transplanted but should be ok , butterfly weed is real hard except when there seedlings
keep the damp and shaded for a few weeks

it is best to get local plants or seeds if you can

Thanks all. My plants survived but lost all of their leaves between the transplant shock and the roofers that were here yesterday-- they leveled ALL of my wildflowers and A. Curassavica. :( Martha, is it too late to plant A. Syriaca seeds this year?

They require stratification. I have a bunch of seedlings that I grew to give away. I don't know how they would travel via post. Where are you located?

Tolovemercy (love the handle) I never got an email. I think the weather is getting too hot for shipping live plants. I'd be happy to send seeds or plants in the fall. Maybe we could arrange a fall plant swap somewhere outside Chicago for some of the Midwesterners. I know there is a great Chicago swap in the spring that I've not been to. Could we meet in Benton Harbor or Gary. I could bring you a ton of native, nectar and host plants or seeds.

Martha, sorry-- I couldn't find your email so I private messaged you via houzz. I agree that it's probably too hot, but a lot of my plants are coming back and my cats are doing ok! Would love to meet & swap. We'll be in MI mid August. Where are you located?

I'm in Grand Rapids. Where in Michigan will you be? Will you be able to care for plants on the road? My sister also grows for pollinators and butterflies, so I could grab some plants from her, also. Her garden is mature enough to provide lots of volunteers. Let's keep in touch. I don't know how to check private messages here in Houzz. Let me look into that.
