What to put here..

HI, in my pond garden (which I thought I had all figured out) now has some empty spots that need filling. One big one just happend over the years as I guess my yellow loose strife decided not to grow in this one section. When they all grow though it blocks the hole from sight but if you stand close you can see the empty abyss still.

I was wanting to ad some sort of shrubbery that would grow tall and not spread, but I don't know if I want all those extra big leaves falling in the pond! Then I thought about maybe putting in some sort of vining plant that would grow up the fence (with the help of a trellis) thus adding height and hiding the fence. The only vining plants I know that can survive Zone 3 are Certain types of Honey suckle and Clematis. Which I do really enjoy. But is there any other vining plant that can withstand zone 3 and do good in this spot?

It gets No morning sun, but then is in Full sun from the Afternoon untill basically sunset.

I want it to grow pretty vigorously too so it can grow taller then the loosestrife.

Oh and No Hops! I have hops growing over our arbor and that grows fast and adds an instant wall of green, but it dies down to the ground every year. I'm looking for something that stays put and could possibly be a nesting or sheltered site for the many birds that visit my yard.

Here's the hole as of now and the second picture is the garden in the summer. So I want it to cover the fence portion above the loosestrife
