Hi, the rug works fine in the room. However, if you're trying to move toward a more contemporary vibe, IMO this rug isn't veering toward that direction.

The area could use some brightening up and the rug creates a light sink. It makes the room look dark and small. A lighter-colored rug would a good enhancement.

I love the rug with your furniture but agree it isn't contemporary. It lends a warm feel to the room. I especially love your coffee table.

I am guessing like others that your drapes are dark turquoise. Beautiful rug, but probably should go back to dining room. Try these more contemporary and bring in additional color.

I really like the turquoise over dyed rug suggested. Current one only works slightly...carpet and wall color seem to be clashing a bit...which might be a reason why no rug looks right to you so far.

I really think the rug works here. It anchors the furniture and creates a warm and inviting space.
