They look like Roughleaf Dogwood (Cornus drummondii), native to parts of Texas, Oklahoma and much of the southeast. Ours just finished blooming down here about 10 days ago.

You will know for sure if they produce white berries in the summer. If they don't produce white berries, then they aren't roughleaf dogwood.

My vote is eastern dogwood with a hint of poison ivy. But dogwood nonetheless.

lol about the poison ivy. I kept looking at those leaves and wondering why they looked "wrong" compared to the other leaves. My mind wasn't even thinking about poison ivy. After sitting and staring at the photo awhile, Scott, I might agree with you that it is more likely to be eastern dogwood than roughleaf. I think the flowers on the ones in the photo are bigger than the flowers on our roughleaf dogwoods, but since ours are done blooming, I'm having to rely on memory regarding the flower size. I love dogwood regardless of the type and have been letting ours spread and take over increasing amounts of the shady space they inhabit. For our first few years here, I tried to control the dogwood, but finally decided there was no controlling it unless I was going to use chemical herbicides, so it just grows and spreads and does its own thing, with a little assist from the birds who spread the seeds around. (That it a nice way of saying it is invasive in the alkaline sandy soil where it grows at our place, but invasiveness isn't always bad---tons and tons of birds feast on the berries.)

IF the leaves are alternate, it is Alternate-Leaved Dogwood and will have blue/black berries. If the leaves are opposite, it is most likely Rough-Leaved Dogwood and will have white berries. Our rough-leaved are blooming now. I thought "Eastern Dogwood" was a common name of the common large-bracted showy dogwoods that bloomed a couple months ago. But whichever species, the genus is Cornus, dogwood.

Yep definitely dogwood. As far as eastern, that's just what we always called it... I do not know if it is wrong or right.
