If the roots grow back then it will likely live. But I think all you have is compost. Don't shoot the messenger...

I would like to know where you live that you have to put a heater in the greenhouse to keep it warm this time of year?

I also wonder what prompted your cutting it down to "basically a stub"?

Why did you cut the roots AND the leaves?

I live in the UK and it's not warm enough outside at the moment without aid. I cut them off because they had black marks on them. I've potted it in bark and only watered the top. Really hoping it sprouts new roots. Thanks for the comments guys.

Water in the crown or center will cause rot. And when the center dies the plant is done. Join a local orchid society. It is the best way to learn. What is most important to you is to get the plants that like to be there. People at the club got your info down. I live in Florida. I can only guess at how to grow in the UK.

Sammie, I'm going to have to side with shavedmonkey.....I'm in the middle part of South Carolina, in the USA. You did not give any hint anywhere about your location, so I could not visualize why you needed the heater...I now know.

The trimming part is another matter. Generally you try to do as little to a "sick" plant as possible, so it still has a few roots and leaves to keep itself fed and hydrated while it gets well.

Give us adequate information, and we can come up with suggestions that help lots of times. In this case, I'm afraid its going to be "back to the drawing borad". Don't give up, we've all been there...its called learning,

Do not water in the center! and with no holes in the pot be careful not to over water. When it is done blooming find help and repot it. Good luck
