Well looks like petals are falling off the female flower but the seed pods are intact. So Maybe the pollination was successful. I guess I'll be watching for the pods to swell as long as they don't fall off.

Well pods are swelling in size. And still havent dropped off. I cant find any absicion points on the stem behind ovaries either. So it looks like pollination went as planned. Now time will tell if the seeds are viable.

I figure about 4weeks for seed pod to ripen and start drying. Does this sound about right?

So seed pods are ripening up now. I have harvested a few pods already as the stems have withered and dried. 2 pods have fully dried and released seeds into the envelope.

I have planted these seeds by sprinkling on top of a soilless mix watered with mild fertilizer and sealed it up. Anxiously awaiting germination.

confirmed germination. Very excited. They started coming up yesterday and now today there is a bunch. Its hard for me to get pictures as they r in a sealed bag. But I really tried to get a decent one. Best one outta 20.

Here's an update. Doing pretty good this is my favorite one. The 2 green leaves are temporary cotyledons. the true leaf looks reddish can't wait for it to get bigger.

@hc mcdole do u happen to know of any rhizomatous tuberous hybrid varieties?

I don't know of any but if it is possible I'm sure it has been done before. That is why I am looking forward to seeing your experiment to the end. It should be interesting.

Here are the latest pics. The largest green leaf is the smaller striped one from the previous pictures. Looks like it lost most of the pigmentation and took on a more rounded shape. I hope that's just from being so young and that the final form leaves will keep the dark red pigmentation.

I tried to take several pics in different lighting so u can get a better idea of how it really looks.

It does look similar to the mother so far but the red appears to be more vibrant rather than a darker purplishblack.

Thanks everyone but I'm sorry to say this little guy died off. gnats got in it and I couldn't save it. But I have lots more seeds so I'll be starting another round towards the end of the month this time In a new gnat free garden.

Tried another batch of batch of seeds. Didn't get a very good germination but here is one that did. About 5 months from seed.

Would love to see the blooms when it gets there!

You are having great results. B. boliviensis is tuberous so there is a chance there that you must maintain 'long' days. If it goes dormant you might mistakenly think it died, when it was just taking a rest. I grow a couple of tuberous crosses, Pat Worleys B. 'Sunshower' which is B. pearce x B. solananthera (or perhaps the other way around) and also I have repeated a Japanese cross of B. pearcei x B. 'Orange Rubra'. I will be thrilled if it blooms, as the Japanese variety came out with yellow flowers which are so rare on canes. B. 'sunshower' is supposed to have yellow flowers too, but hasn't bloomed for me. I have extra cuttings saved of both crosses, so they won't go dormant or die on me.

They've come a long way. Will be very interested to see the blooms when that occurs. Just curious if they will show the blooms of boliviensis or bowerae.
