We own 1.5 acres on a rocky hillside. A fence surrounds much of it,
but the property extends down to a seasonal stream and up half of the
next hill.

DH hired an irrigation specialist to fix a rusty,
broken valve. The pro discovered a leak in the main line on our
frontage slope. Our water bill will be seriously cut when he fixes that
next week! We are in a drought here in So CA, so the water company
will be surprised that we are cutting back so much. We never suspected
that leak was even there.

We learned from the neighbors that
the builder feared fire so much that he irrigated the unfenced
property. An irrigation pipe is visible, but we don't know how it works.

The pro is going to locate and fix that irrigation for use
only if a fire happens. He came up with a brilliant idea. He is going
to install a rainbird sprinkler system on top of the chain link so it will water
the hillside IF a fire occurs. You can see the fence in the photo
