I agree, but will quickly tell you the features I think you should be looking at to determine which is best for you -- type of power input (dials, +/- buttons, direct-select power levels, etc.), size and layout of the hobs (some people like the biggest burner in the middle or the back, some don't), whether the hobs have individual timers (one of my favorite things about mine), whether you want stainless trim or just black glass, whether you want a bridge element (where two burners can be used together), how many power levels there are (mine has 17 or 19 and I use them all, and I'm not at all a fancy cook or chef), whether you want the kind where you can place the pan anywhere on the cooktop (you're still limited in the number of pans, but you don't have to be precise). Hope that helps.

Any recommendations on brands? They seem to run the gamut and reviews are all over the place. I go from GE to Miele to Wolff to dacor to thermador

I've had a Bosch for 1-1/2 years and love it.

sjhockeyfan has already created the perfect list of criteria to consider. We also have the Bosch and are quite happy with it.

I don't want to make a mistake. I know Miele has a great reputation as does Bosch. Does price matter? Looking for more flexibility in pot size. Not much of a griddle person, so 2 bridges does not appeal to me.

I seem to use the largest burner the most, so I like that it is in the middle. It's not too far back, but far enough to get the best capture from the hood. I rarely use more than 3 pans at a time, but I like to spread out!

I almost always use at least the largest (for fish or pork chops or whatever) and one of the smallest hobs (vegetables), and often add the medium hob (rice) too. I don't make fussy dishes, so I kind of like having the largest pan in the right rear (mine's the 30" cooktop) so it's out of the way. But everyone differs in that regard.

If you're looking for flexibility in pot size, Bosch says "the burner automatically adjusts down to fit your pan size, thanks to the PotSense™ feature". I don't know about other brands. I've decided on Bosch, but have no experience with it yet.
