Excessive or Chic?

last modified: 11 years ago

I just bought this monogrammed door mat from Frontgate. My husband thinks it looks ridiculously HUGE! What are your thoughts? Way too big or does it look nice? Should I keep it, or return it for the standard size?
BTW - my new door knocker may "look" off centered, but it isn't! We have a retractable screen door and the white molding covers a portion of the black door.

I think it looks great! If it were smaller you'd prob be stepping off of it just to get in and out of the door.

I bookmarked you because I'm always wanting a good photo of how retractable screens look. I think it looks great. I have some big doormats like yours but without monogramming. They've lasted for 10 years!!!

Thanks for the compliment @decoenthusiaste! I'm not sure where online my husband purchased ours (we tried one from Lowes and it looked cheap), but if you're interested I can get the info for you.

i like your doormat, it's large enough to leave a pair of boots sitting if they had snow on them. it's my initial too, i could say it looks terrible and offer to buy it from you half price.. ; )

i didnt catch the "off center" knocker til you mentioned it, but any chance you can tint the leading edge of the screen a darker color?

Keep it. It looks great and the appropriate size. A tiny doormat would just be wrong!

@nnigrt - That's a good idea. We just got the screen and I love having it. It's so nice to leave the front door open. The molding is metal, so I'm not sure if I could paint that portion black? Would it chip?

Looks great! I have a very simlar doormat from Williams-Sonoma, though the monogramming has completely worn off, so I'm looking for a replacement. I will just have to check out Frontgate :)

hmmmm well maybe not paint... and i think its too big to do with sharpie (my go-to technique for making bright screw heads dark.... its really not a huge visual problem, for me, with the screen. leave it as is.

I love it! Can you tell me where you got your retracting screen door? We've been looking for one and both Lowes and HD stopped stocking them. Thx

Yes, we'd like to know where to purchase the screen. Thanks.

    Me too re: the screen

I don't think the knocker looks off-center because it is centered on the door. If you hadn't mentioned it I don't think anyone would have noticed. Don't try to paint the screen door, just leave it.

I love the mat, looks great and your entry is very clean and modern.

The first thing I noticed though is the off-center door, caused by the screen. I agree with other posters, spray painting it black would be a good idea. Rustoleum is a great product, I'd get gloss paint. You can use it on anything, metal, plastic, wood!

Hi decoenthusiaste and Moxiemom - the retractable screen door is by BRISA. http://www.odl.com/brisa_retractable_screen_doors.htm

Yes, I understand the screen door makes it a little off, perhaps. But the majority of us are crooked people and we won't even notice, the rest, well don't worry once they are in they will be so worried about getting your art straight they will forget about the tiny, tiny door issue. And yes, the mat looks great to all of us!

Thanks havingfun! :) Now that I have lived with the mat for about 2 weeks, I really, really LOVE it! My husband stopped complaining about it, so it's a keeper!
