As Jean suggested, it's difficult to tell much about your insects, other than the fact that they are weevils. Leaf eating weevils quite often chew along the edge of leaves....it's a distinguishing characteristic for some species.

I'm going to guess that your pest is one of the Polydrusus species.....use Google images to compare these small, green weevils.

They munch a wide amount off the external edge of the leaf in a sort of semi-circular pattern. I can try to take and post a photo of the damage. I'm in the far north of Indiana, bordering Michigan (Z5). I have seen and smooshed four so far, but I havent seen more since (fingers crossed), which is why I havent been able to post a better photo. But the suggestion that they are green weevils seems right, when I look up "green weevil polydrusus" the pictures look very much like what I got.

Searching online, the general opinion seems to be that they are not prone to huge population explosions, and not much specific advice for controlling or preventing polydrusus except that a host of traditional sprays may be effective.

Have you all dealt with them before? is hand picking the best option?

Since you three have proven to be fantastic insect detectives, may I try one more? I think this one is a garden hero: I believe it eats aphids but I cannot find any description like it or image of it online. It seems to appear on aphid plants shortly after the aphids arrive, and correlates with a reduction in the observed aphid population. Doesnt appear in lists of aphid predators that I've found, and google reverse image search turns up nothing. It may have a juvenile version that is sort of creamy colored (or that could be another bug with similar body type).
