Don't cut that long stem, it will eventually put leaves out on that and if you cut the stem it will not bloom this year. Can't say how long it will take to do some thing more with the bare stem. I just kind of ignore mine, it does what it does in its own time frame. Do you have a picture? How long have you had it? What are you doing to care for it? Really need more information before any advise is given (other than what I just stated that is LOL)

It should be Hoya Australis. I bought it about 3 or 4 months ago and put it on a south facing window still. Since then it just grows vines and the leaves remain the same.

That is what they do. You can't do anything with that other than wait for them to leaf out. They often bloom on those leafless vines first, THEN leaf out. So, definitely do not cut anything off.

One thing I see here that you may want to correct is - never clip those young vines facing down. Clipping them at all is a questionable practice (they may slow down their growth in response), but if you have to manage the space, then clip them up or sideways, and clip as far away from the growing tip as possible. If they are clipped down, the whole leafless vine that is clipped down will often die, and the plant will continue growing from the last surviving node (after a pause!), which will obviously set it back.

I know this is a very old thread, but did your Hoya ever leaf out on that long vine?

Australis is notorious for doing this. I put one outside this summer and the vine grew over six feet in length, with no leaves. It twined around everything. Then, one day when it was ready, leaves started popping up all over and it filled out beautifully. It's what Australis does. Don't cut the vines, but do make sure the tips point in an upwards direction if at all possible. It aids in the growth.
