Not sure if there is an outlet but you could place a lamp there on one side. Keep it simple and vary heights for interest.

I would also consider moving the table over to the right, it seems off center. Agree with adding a lamp, potentially vase w/fresh flowers, coffee table books (stacked), framed pictures, etc.

Depending on what else is around that area of your house (on the walls etc) you could put a large fun mirror, a taller grassy plant (these in glass bowls look great), a multi photo family picture frame, stack of older books, possibly neat sentimental/ antiques you have lying around the house, candles, an interesting lamp, or a combo of two maybe three of these things... Lots of possibilities!

would you put a table runner underneath the items?

I would, to add a pop of colour and pull items together. Dark red/ burgundy might look good with the room

Tiny pop of color would be nice. Flowers, a silver frame with some color pictures, and a glass lamp with a rectangular lamp shade.

I would hate to see a table runner hide your beautiful wood. The table should be more centered if possible and I would suggest hanging a small colorful traditional painting with wide somewhat ornate frame over the tablet and possibly an old silver bowl filled with pine ones on the table. Simple but elegant!

i like Interiors International, Inc ideas( i would probably remove two frames from the wall)

What about something along these lines for tabletop ideas. Working from low to high like Interiors Int. suggested?... ( sorry about the busy background but hopefully you will get the idea)

Hi! Looks like you have a nice area! I think I would remove the frame on the right and place something tall there, such as a lamp or vase. And yes, I would add a table runner. Here are a few options:
