candle tapers

what is the appropriate height for candles? I have a pair of 6" Baccarat candle sticks. It will be sitting next to an 8" crystal vase on my dining room shelf. There are 3 walls and no windows. The chandelier is 6 arm crystal (traditional) and the ceiling is 9 feet high.
