Apricot grafting sucesses
I was trying to add this to konrads apricot thread but it won't let me post pics .since my trees were loaded with grape sized fruits and the last cold night wiped them out looks like all that energy is going to a good place .there is still lots of dried up fruits hanging but non survived
Here is a capilano scion graft I whip and tounge grafted in April .im worried it's growing so much it might break the graft ! This is the most impressive graft for me hands down this year it has many new shoots some are almost 12" long already .the tree has a few 20" shoots of new growth itself already .early fertilization pays off .ill juice them a bit more than just let them harden off .last year I snipped the tips in August to stop growing and it worked wonders not a inch of die back on these two apricot trees . Should I support this graft more? I never had growth like this so fast usually it's a year or two after it grows like this

- 10 years agoThis was probably my best ever. It grew many limbs off the scion .this graft has a flawless connection Shot out about 7 branches some are 24" long. If I add up the growth in inches this like 10ft of new growth from one 6" scion I did in April or May.
Might either be a capilano or from the second Riley tree. I don't lable my scions. I had incredible success grafting this year. I kinda by hybridized konrads modified bark graft with whip and tounge .
- 10 years agoThis is a mtroyal scion on to one of my apricots that has a perfect connection .i did most of my grafts when the trees were still dormant but breaking buds . We had a crazy nice April so I think that plays into it also.
- 10 years agoBottom branch painted white is a peach grafted to a Brookgold plum. It grew pretty good to but Is a cleft graft and only shot out 1 long branch.
