Frustratingly, my 2005 era house was built without an externally vented range hood. The range and microwave/range hood combo are situated against an internal wall, making side venting impossible and leaving roof venting as the only viable option. However, this will require boxing out/sheetrocking over the visible duct work, an option my wife has shot down as too unsightly.

The contractor we're working with has instead proposed installing ductwork and an inline fan (Fantech FR 110) directly into the ceiling several feet removed from the existing range (see attached mock-up). The fan is rated at only 150 CFM, which seems low to me. The contractor claims it will be more than adequate for our needs and will provide superior exhaust relative to our existing microwave/range hood combo. Thoughts?
