Hi,

I'm completly new to Bananas as I live in Zone 3 and the only plausible way to grow a banana is as a house plant. Though, since my cabin is zone five I heard of the Musa basjoo and was looking everywhere for them untill eventually my grandma picked one up for me as well as a red Abyssinian banana (ensete Maurelli). I havnt seen the plants yet in person as they are in B. C at the moment, but I am heading out there next week.

The Musa basjoo I'm going to attempt to over winter there.. Havnt decided to overwinter in the ground or dig it up and overwinter it in my garage. Though the ensete isn't as Hardy so I'd have to grow it as a houseplant during the winter months. Which here is basically from September to May.

I've been trying to do reasearch and have read that they can be grown as houseplants or cut down and overwintered in a cold garage.

I want to try to grow it as a house plant, but could I? Even though I'm in Zone 3 and we get very little sun during the winter, we are called the sun shine province and I have a (few) south facing windows it could sit beside. Though my average house temperatures varies from 15-22 degrees Celsius and the air is dry due to the furnace. Would that be favourable? Has anyone had luck doing that in the colder areas? Or should I try to overwinter it by dormancy?
