Looks like foxtail barley, or Hordeum jubatum to me. Maybe a little more of a red shade than I typically see, but that could be a lighting artifact.

Saw a bunch more yesterday and I'm near-certain that is what it is.

That's exactly what it is, H. jubatum. Though, I've always known it as squirreltail.

It is beautiful glowing in the sun, and if you have loads of room, it would be great. It can quickly become an unwanted weed in your average garden setting though.
