Question on Transplanting Self Seeders

Last June we planted some red and white annuals between blue Agapanthas for a 4th of July display. They looked great and this spring all have re-seeded, but not in the right place.

DH transplanted some of the larger ones to where they should be and they are very wilted and sad looking. Should we clip them off so the roots can grow new shoots?
