How to size recess?

Is there a standard offset for the recess against the height and width of the TV? In other words, the recess should always be x inches wider and y inches taller than the dimensions of the tv?

Hi there. We don't have a hard rule. It really depends on asthetics. In this case, the recess was matched to the width of the fireplace and the TV was chosen to be slightly smaller. This ended up being a 55" TV with a width of 48" (approx). I would always recommend leaving a min of 1/2" reveal for ventilation and more if you have the option. Another trick is to have the recess painted black or use dark tile to blend the TV and recess. One of the other projects we did has that and you can find it under one of the "Leaside" projects.
