what is eatting my plants?

Whatever it is is eatting maybe both my zinnias and potatoe vine? My poor lil zinnias. On the third pic of zinnias there is lil black gritty stuff I found all over one zinnia? Not sure if the two are related. Thanks everyone!

how long have they been in the ground.. they look etiolated.. stretched??

did you start them from seed... did you harden them off to sun???

all kinds of things attack stressed plants ..

i think you number is off.. as to the third pic

last pic.. look for a caterpillar.. night and day ...

I did start them from seed. First indoors up until they were abut two inches tall. Then outdoors in existing container. Then transferred. Lord knows I havent grown anything from seed before so these poor lil flowers are lucky to be alive Not sure why they look so horribly. In the other side of my bed they are about the same height but have more leaves? I do not know what it means to harden them off to the sun-sorry green () gardner here.

I will look for caterpillar thank you. I thought the slugs were annoying I appreciate your help! Oh below is pic of other zinnias (same bunch) different location.
