I would take cutting to root right away before the whole vine wilts. Be sure to dip the cuttings in rooting hormone and the cuttings will root faster if they are on bottom heat. Use a good draining medium to root the cuttings, I like 50/50 perlite/vermiculite. Keep the cuttings moist while rooting, either in a greenhouse or in a large plastic bag.

Looks like it was a fairly established vine. I did the same thing to a p.'Lady Margaret' last year and it came back. But as insurance, cuttings would be in order as well. Just watch the base of the plant for new sprouts and protect them from the caterpillars for a bit.

Thanks! It's been a day and a half since it happened and the leaves haven't wilted really yet... So I am hopeful that it will make it. I am going to take cuttings though and use the root stimulator just to be on the safe side. :-) can you get that 50/50 mix at Home Depot or Lowes?

I make the 50/50 mix myself using the two components. You may be lucky with the cut not going all the way through, but it won't hurt to have backup plants.
