I like miacometlady's suggestion. I had this photo from awhile ago because I thought it was such a great use of under-the-staircase space.

Since this is on second floor across from bedroom, paint the nook a deep color, such as charcoal gray or indigo, and hang funky artwork like an art gallery, Some sculpture OK but hanging on wall, not sitting on floor.

How about an indoor fountain? There are some lovely sleek ones that mount on the wall, or you could do something with an Asian look. I think it would be very soothing to hear it from the bedroom, and nice to have something zen-like to look at when you come out to the landing. Let us know what you decide!

I am a dog lover, I think a room for pets if you have any.

a tiny console table and mirror until you find the right piece of art. think special keepsakes that are boxed away. A collection of grandpa's hats and photos could be artistic as well as sentimental.

I like the bench idea. If having a built in is out of your budget, how bout a free standing one. Maybe a low plant next to it.

Ok, I have a different idea. I know you do not want storage, so what about glass? Glass shelves, with beautiful glass sculptures or vases, etc. It will sparkle and if you have color it will constantly being reflecting, like having a giant floral arrangement. But, I can't stress enough my concerns are for children and pets, outside the parents bedroom is always a popular place to play or nap. If you have either of these it might be better to cater to them. Have fun, and let us see!

With it being outside the master bedroom, I would wallpaper using grasscloth on the wall and under the staircase to higlight the area, add a small chest or console, some soft lighting and rest art on the top. It will look cozier and more complete than just having a piece of sculpture there.

I think a beautiful free standing bench with possibly a tall sculpture next to it, or perhaps a large floral arrangement on a pedestal slightly behind...I'd also like a large piece of art on the wall..needs a pop!

Etsy has a vendor called Throne upholstery that sells chairs that could double as art. I think the scale would be just right. They even do custom if you want to pick your own fabric. You could do two chairs or one with a table.

The owner of the house is a single 65 year old male. The house is 6000 square feet, four bedrooms seven bathrooms and an upstairs private entry apartment with full kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room. The house has living room, dining room, great room, massive kitchen, breakfast nook, office and library that is the main reason no more storage is needed. He does not own any animals as he travels frequently so I am going to source sculptures as that really is the best answer. Thank you for all th input and if anyone knows of an artist that does illusion sculptures (as it will be attached to the wall) I am looking for that. Thank you

You know, if it was me, I would have either a pixie door or one that opens onto space with a dinosaur peeking around the corner, something totally whimsical. But, it seems this gentleman has the means and the desire to be seen as someone in touch with a more elite sophistication. Sotheby's is having a huge auction on Ebay with much art, perhaps that is where you should be shopping, can be considered an investment too.

Think a bar under the stairs, and then around the corner on that blank wall, have an artist do a mural of the owner.

A reading nook or storage closet will be a good use of the space.

Seriously, I think this gentleman can afford to pay for his advice about what to put where...

ok, everyone, they just want cool sculpture ideas. and yes, he can probably hire someone, but the person asking for the help came to us, because isn't this what everyone likes to do and I don't think we have ever limited the income? I pass many questions cause they are not for me for one reason or another, can't all of us do that? Plus, if you note, it looks like he is staying in one suite and not the whole house. Maybe they just don't want to say he is the poorer brother or cousin. You know the last time we heard from escapene was Monday, 3 days ago, maybe they are done with us?

Actually, a lot of the ideas are appreciated but not suitable for this situation meaning he's not wanting more storage, a seating area makes no sense in this location, doesn't have animals...

What I am looking for is interesting sculptures - it's a beautiful craftsmen styled home and art would look the best so I am searching for that. I appreciate all the positive input and thank you. As far as what he can afford - well it's all relative

did you try the sotheby's auction on ebay? they had some beautiful art glass, haven't looked at much of the rest, prices are too scarey, but maybe not for you?

so, if the owner doesn't need storage and travels frequently, why bother? just leave it alone.

If I were the homeowner, it would mean more to me to display things from the areas I had traveled to. A chest from Tibet/China, painting from France, etc.

What about a small wall or freestanding water fountain? The sound would be soothing.
