Would like to share - rose seedlings

The idea of
creating something totally unique is what prompted me to start hybridizing. I read so much about the how’s and when’s on
the internet and here on GardenWeb and in 2013 I did my first crosses. This is the first time I am showing any of my crosses.

Of course,
as referred to by Seil, I got a whole lot of the ‘default, 5 petal pinks’ but
two of the crosses from 2013 have turned out to be keepers. They both
germinated (very late) in September 2014 and I had them under lights down in my cellar
where they both had their first blooms. They have since been potted up into bigger pots and
performing quite well out in the open.

I am very
please with these two.

Rose No. 1 2013 - three pics - has quite a strong scent

Picture of both (rose in the middle is from a different cross - a few more than 5 petals but pink)

Last years crosses have only produced one keeper but it still has to prove itself out in the open.

ozmelodye you had me there for a sec - stratifying in June? But you're down under so it's winter now. I am originally from South Africa and have quite a few relatives who now live in Oz. Good luck with your seeds - hope you get something special!
Mark - have a go - it's fun but you need patience in this game.

That's lovely to see a rose with pink and white on the same bush.

Before commenting about that roses, I must first appreciate your photography skills, because it's amazing to watch those pics you have shared. I really enjoyed seeing them as it's a pleasure giving watch. The first pic from the last set of two roses, it's awesome and I liked that one most. I'm a writer and working on various writing projects, though I often find out time to read this kind of forums as it's a relaxing thing to spend some time within the board like this.

Great sharing and you deserves all credits for this wonderful roses :)

Carol, thanks, also just want to put something straight - the sixth pic is actually three different rose bushes. The pots are just very close together.

Wow! I love the first and second ones!! Do you know what the crosses are? That first one is so cool how it starts out with some coral-red tones and then changes to pink. And I love the veining! The red one is actually quite interesting too. I'm not a big fan of reds, but it's kinda cool with that sort-of proliferated-looking center.

I would love to do some hybridizing myself, but just don't have the time. Maybe when I retire... Haha... I do enjoy collecting o/p hips and growing seeds from those. Have had a couple of nice ones, but most just look like their mommas. I have some new o/p's that I planted a few months ago that still haven't produced a bloom yet. Looking forward to seeing those.

Keep posting pics of these as they mature. It's fun to see them, and see how they can change.

Hi Virginia - thanks! This season it was just over 200 and about 90 germinations so far. Actually haven't chucked out the seed tray yet and today I saw a few stragglers. Really have to pot them up tomorrow - you never know, one of them may turn out to be spectacular?

What beauties, especially #1. I have finally decided to try my hand at growing roses from OP hips and have seed from Black Beauty( Delbard) stratifying in my fridge. Will be happy if some grow, even if they turn out to be " default pinks" but there is always that chance of something really exciting!
