Personally - it's ok to keep your purses (or my shoes, etc)...in trying to consolidate purses downstairs and master closet I was trying to decide the hanging style or dividing them on a shelves (like trays and baking pans in the kitchen). The hangers use too much vertical space. My 4-5 leather seasonal purses are in satin bags and will switch them to dividers in season. The 8-10 summer purses will go into satin bag. I'm happy.

I also have a lot of purses. I found these purse hangers that attach to the back of the closet door from Bed, Bath and Beyond. Works wonderful. As long as your purses aren't too heavy, I think this might work for you. Holds about 12 purses!
