New here :)
Hello, first post so I hope i'm following all of the rules. I thought I would post and introduce myself since i've been reading and learning so much over the past, almost year. Thank you all for posting and asking and answering questions! I look forward to spending more time on the forums now that I have my own plants. I've read so much lately that I almost feel like I "know" some of the you so I felt like a little intro would be in order.
I first discovered Plumeria 15 years ago on a trip to Hawaii with my grandmother. We were at a luau and a Hawaiian man climbed a palm tree and dropped hundreds of plumeria. I fell in love with the flowers instantly but they were always Hawaiian to me. I had no idea they could exist here in Florida.
Grandma and I went back to Hawaii last August and she bought me a cutting from the airport in Maui. I picked the Lei Rainbow. Brought it home and found the Plumeria forum, read a lot and started rooting my cutting. Sadly, the cutting didn't make it. I was pretty upset with myself and figured I might not be cut out for Plumeria. From my forum reading last year I knew Plumeria would be coming to our Lowe's so I made a mental note to be on top of searching this year. We got one shipment in at the beginning of the month and they went fast. I was able to get two, JJ's Sahara and Nirvana. I'm so happy to have them :)
I don't have any blooms of my own to share but today visiting my Grandma at the beach we happened to spot these. My favorite thing to do on the forums now as I wait for mine to bloom is admire everyone else's blooms!

Optimism is as important as fertilizing. Sooner or later you will get another Lei Rainbow. Here is my Lei rainbow cutting this morning. I brought it back from Oahu in 2001.

11 years agolast modified: 11 years agoI'm in central Florida, and just visited Oahu for a wedding, and instantly fell in love with the plumeria. Then I learn that its native to the Americas, and only enjoy it more. Perhaps a little further south, but it belongs here, and is enjoyed around the world and through Asia.
I just bought several smaller rooted plants in person from the Exotic Plumeria nursery toward Tampa ( including a large Singapore which I hope to plant in the front yard in time.) I also found another supplier (Brad's Blooms towards Orlando) which I ordered some more small rooted plumeria and some seeds (those should be ariving tomorrow). My plan is to start with the pre-rooted cuttings, while playing with trying to raise the seeds, and in time moving up to rooting cuttings myself. It seems the seedlings can be fun because they don't come true to the parent, so who knows what you might get. I usually do not have much of a green thumb, but it seems the plumeria should be pretty tolerant to full sun and not being watered often, so here's hoping the current plants thrive and the new ones come in good condition ( that second batch should arrive tomorrow. ) That will put me up to 7, with 15 seeds I'm going to try. Why so many? I'd like to replace a tree out front, in time, and I'm not very plant successful, so I need some room for "trial and error."
My biggest fear is with the seeds/seedlings, and also one of the 7 is a cutting (celadine) gifted from the wedding, started by my mother who has equally no experience. The cutting was just dropped into florida soil with no perlite, and is currently outside getting rain - several things seemingly not recommended.
