It looks a lot like my Ville de Lyon, which is one of my absolute favorites.

It does look very similar! This one seems darker than the pictures a quick google search throws up though - the picture I posted here is too light and pink, thanks to my phone camera. Could that be caused by the plant growing in heavy shade?

At first it reminded me of my Margot Koster. But, I think Ville de Lyon. See the silvery bars?

Here's a photo of my Ville de Lyon. The lighter pink petal center, the overlapping petals, yellow stamens, and the overall rounded form all say Ville de Lyon. The foliage matches as well. I don't know of any similar clematis, and it's an older variety, so would be appropriate to a plant that age.

It is a lovely clematis, and easy to grow. I've move mine around a few times, but found that it grew very well in areas that got only about 4 hours of sun followed by dappled or bright shade. As with any Clem, don't let the soil around it dry out. It puts on a great show and. As you can see, is stunning.

Yeah, it probably is Ville de Lyon even though it seems darker, all other characteristics match. It grows in dappled shade with almost no direct sun at all, close to a huge beech tree, with pretty dry soil, so must indeed be easy to grow!

I dug up 4 small, separate plants of it today, left the big plant alone. Now I just hope they'll survive the move.
