Since the vine can grow anywhere between 5-8', the larger obelisk is appropriate (trellises are flat - obelisks or tuteurs are 3 dimensional).

That much sun has the potential to fade the flower color to some degree but by and large, most clematis are sun lovers. Dig a large, well-amended planting hole for each and plant deeply (about 4" deeper than the nursery container). I'd also consider planting something low growing to shade the root system or mulch heavily. And this a pruning group 2 clem, so a light shearing after the initial bloom flush should result in light rebloom in late summer. I would also prune hard at the end of winter. This helps to encourage strong root development and the production of additional basal shoots and greater resistance to wilt.

Thank you so very much, garden gal. I mistakingly called the planting form a trellis, but it is indeed an obelisk. What would I amend the soil with in the planting area I have chosen? Also, I understand your planting instructions, but don't understand your instructions for after bloom. How would I light shear? Is that taking hand pruners and taking off long shoots, or is it an all over shearing with hedge shears, or is it something else? I also don't know what hard pruning would be at the end of winter. I am sorry that I am not educated about clematis. I know that most readers here are. I am a quick learner, though, when it comes to gardening. :-)
