Outdoor Fans/lighting

I want to install a fan/light like a minka aire concept fan in my porch, my electrician says that its not work spending any extra money on a outdoor fan because they are almost exactly the same as the indoor ones just with a plastic blade, any experience or thoughts on this?

PS we live in New England so its not like we get 365 days of sun!

I'd hope that outdoor rated ones would be more corrosion resistant and better shielded against insects and splashed water. I'd closely read the product specifications before paying a significant markup.
