Acanthus is not blooming

I have had a large bed of acanthus for over 10 years. I has always bloomed beautifully. A February ice storm in 2014 severly damaged the elm tree underwhich they grow. The tree was severly pruned and the acanthus are in more sun than before plus the soil was trampled by the tree cutters. The acanthus bloomed that summer, but no where near as many blooms as normal. The winter of 2015 was extremely harsh and the acanthus were very late coming up. I have lots of leaves but no blooms nor any sign of a blossom. Acanthus growing elsewhere on my property are doing well and are in full bloom. They are more protected areas. I have three varieties - soft leaves, slightly prickly leaves, and thorny leaves and none in the main bed have flowers. Does any one have any ideas about why there would be no blooms?
