Let's message!

Okay this is driving me crazy, guys. Ever since we switched to Houzz, you aren't able to message people by default.

BUT if we just edit our preferences, under our profiles, we can do it again! And then people won't have to keep posting their email in threads, just to communicate privately.

So, please, if you want people to be able to message you, make the following changes:

1. Go to your profile (upper right corner of the screen) and hit 'edit profile'

2. Click on 'advanced settings' (on the left)

3. Scroll down and change your privacy settings to 'anyone can message me'

Maybe you guys already know all this, and are just refusing to let me message you, but seriously, it is annoying, because sometimes you just want to have a chat mano e mano, you know?

This has been a public service announcement, after having a couple beers.

Thanks! Done, and oooh now I need to find that climate bit. Thanks you two! Clearly GG should drink beer more often. ;)

I messed around and finally found how to get that changed, GG, but I
couldn't find anyone who had that "message me" on their page - can't see it on mine so didn't know if there was a way for others to send me an e-mail. Now I see how it works on yours. I hope my "message me" button shows up for others...

The message button is under 'Activity' when you go to someone's profile. You'd think they would make it a little easier on us to find this stuff!

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I first switched mine. You can't see the message button appear when you preview your own profile. (B/c they want to make you paranoid.) But it is there, when the rest of us look. It's right on the banner. Or, as Nianyu says, when you're viewing the site on a mobile device, it's under 'activity.'

It's not very intuitive at all! But as long as the functionality exists, I can deal.
